Hot Sam's Antiques in Lakeville, Minnesota, is an adventure.  You have to watch carefully for the sign, because there is no building in view when you arrive.  Drive down the narrow, dirt one-lane wide driveway, past the fence with all kinds of doo dads and collectibles attached, past the old cars and other vehicles, past the pond over with an arched bridge, past the outdoor toys and the canopy at the bottom of the hill with assorted roosters and hens looking for a tasty morsel, and when you see the Statue of Liberty with arm raised, holding a light bulb instead of a torch--you will know you have arrived.

Spend time browsing the grounds, the house, the shed, the train cars, the old gas station garage.  Maybe a couple of elephant chairs are on your 'must have' list.  But allow at least a minimum of an hour for the house alone, so jam packed with goodies attractive to somebody, and then ask the price because a lot of it isn't marked.  Make a deal, but make it fair.

On our last visit there, we encountered Sam himself, and a truly fine conversation we had.  Sam explained that he is a third generation junkman.  (I wonder if he knew Sanford and his son?)  He is a Vietnam Vet, obviously intelligent, and a very easy person to like.  Sam will make a deal, as long as it's fair.

Right next to the Statue of Liberty sans torch, with light bulb, Sam built a brightly colored playhouse with ladder entry.  He says the kids don't want to go home, and I believe it.

Yup! Hot Sam's is an adventure.

A Page from an Old Manuscript: This brilliant work, made for the first Duke of Buckingham, is a fine illustration of the elaborate way the medieval monks illuminated their manuscripts.

Today Rick and I made a visit to Hot Sam's Antiques off Exit 81 in Lakeville. If you have never been there, this place is an EXPERIENCE. There is a playhouse, a bridge with a pond, outdoor antiques, collectibles, and junk, even wandering chickens. You can brouse through the house, the shed, the railroad cars, outdoors. WATCH for the sign, though, or you might not see where to drive IN. And if you are there at the right time you might have a nice visit with the owner and operator, Sam, third generation junkman, one of the last true junk men.

QMB Free Image Photo Clipart Site CHURCHES

Greetings Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
Today's free images are of rural church my friend, Kathy Z. and I took why on a day trip along highway 212.  Some of the towns we visited today were Glencoe, Stewart, Buffalo Lake, Sacred Heart, Fairfax, and Olivia.

We ate lunch at Kathy's Place in Sacred Heart, Minnesota. The food was tasty and the atmosphere warm.  Dinner was at Bump's Family Restaurant in Glencoe.  Bump's menu features delicious made from scratch soups and homemade desserts.  Kathy dined on the hearty beef vegetable soup, and I enjoyed the scrumptious Dakota Omelet with American Fries.

In Sacred Heart, Minnesota, we happened to be there when the local museum was open.  Helped by Eleanor and Helen, we found out that there is a good amount of information for researching local family ties and history, as well as a fine museum with many historic artifacts.  We saw the old 1901 large school bell that was found in attic.  We found out that Helen's grandfather had settled in Hawk's Creek Township in 1866.

Peace and Blessing,
Mary Katherine May
